CARPOOL VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The 7:20 A.M. Morning Greeters need your help.  We need some new faces for the second half of the school year. It's an easy, fun way to get involved with the school.  Some volunteers are stay-at-home parents, while others find this is a great way to volunteer as a working parent, before the workday begins.  Please just park your car at 7:15 A.M. or so, walk up, and introduce yourself. We can tell you which mornings we need your help. Or, call Nancy Solis at 281-497-2512. Your child gets to be one of the first students in the classroom the mornings you volunteer, and you get to help our students start their day! Take your turn helping and make your child proud!
VILLAGE SCHOOL CHESS TEAM WINS AT STATE!
Thirty members of the chess team traveled to downtown Houston to attend The Texas State Scholastic Championship.  The kids brought home two state team championships, one individual championship, and a truck full of trophies.

In the Middle School JV section, the battle for first place came down to a contest between two Village students. Recently, Wesley Hungbui has been playing the best chess of his life. He won the State Championship in decisive fashion, winning every game he played.  Losing just one game (to Wesley) and taking third place was Samir Kavadi.  These two boys, along with Raj Kavadi, also won second place in the Middle School JV Team competition.

In the K-1 Championship section, Aaron Chang, Amit Kavadi, Elliot Glatman, and Rorye Jones led a team of 8 to the State Team Championship.  This group of kids plays with enthusiasm, skill, and maturity far beyond their years.  Aaron and Amit each won six games to tie for second place, grabbing 3rd and 6th place individual trophies after tie-breaks.  Elliot Glatman and Rorye Jones brought home 5 and 4.5 points to help secure the biggest team trophy.  In fact, the trophy is taller than the kids!

Becky Huang played her usual strong chess to lead the Elementary Championship Team to first place with six wins.  Abigail Glatman and Zack Westenhaver contributed five wins each, while Devan Shan brought 4.5 points to the table to complete the team win. Becky's efforts also netted her a fine second place individual trophy.

The Elementary JV team won the second place team trophy.  Michael Tian led the way with six wins. Winstein Hungbui contributed 5.5 points, with Timothy Mashinski and Meagan Walsh adding 5 and 4 points to the team effort.

This completes the big events for this school year.  The Village School has always had a strong team, but this year the kids have put forth a special effort.  At each tournament, a new group of kids has helped to win the trophies.  They are very competitive, but also very supportive.  During games, the kids display great sportsmanship and even greater skill.  With time, they will only get better!
