FOCUS ON THE ARTS TICKETS |
Tickets may be purchased at the door for the first annual Focus on the Arts, Saturday, April 5, 2008, at 7:00 P.M. Final touches are being put on artwork; the band, choir, and orchestra students are busy in final rehearsals. You and your family don't want to miss this special event. If you ordered tickets but did not receive them in your child's backpack, they will be available at the will call table at HBU.

The Village School Summer School Brochure is ready for your perusal at the link below. Registration of VILLAGE SCHOOL FAMILIES ONLY will begin Tuesday, April 8th at 9:00 A.M. Registration will open to the public on Thursday, April 17th at 9:00 A.M. Please note that we will be accepting registration between 9:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M. throughout May. After May 16th, an additional late fee of $25.00 will be in effect.
To register, please go to the link below and download the brochure. Fill in the forms needed to register and send them, along with your check, to school with your child. We will process the registrations and send confirmations home with your child.

JAMES PHAM 8th GRADE STATE NUMBER SENSE CHAMPION!
The VMS Math and Science Team placed within the top three positions in every category at the TMSCA State Meet in San Antonio on March 29th! The team placed first in science, winning the state science championship, second in number sense, third in calculator, and second in general math! The state champions in 7th grade science and 8th grade number sense and math were Village Students!
There were 77 schools represented and over 500 students competing in the 5A division! A school the size of The Village School, with an enrollment of approximately 200 middle school students, would normally compete in the 2A division; however, our feeder schools are 5A and we are obligated to compete in that division. We are so proud our students compete successfully with the biggest and best schools in the state. They were simply awesome.

The Village Track and Field Team heads to St. John's School this week to compete in its third official meet of the season. Our squads continue to gear up for the upcoming conference meet action. We encourage parents and supporters to catch this week's action on Thursday, April 10th and Friday, April 11th at St. John's.
Wednesday, March 26th and Thursday, March 27th, 42 Vikings posted their first official times of the season at the Houston Christian H.S. meet (since our first official meet at Presbyterian was a rain-out.) Leading the way for Village at the HCHS meet were: James Wang, Austin Tucker, Jonathan Freeman, Abolade Jebutu (8th grade boys 4x100 meters relay, 1st in heat); Cedric Ginestra (8th grade boys 400m, 1st in heat and 3rd overall); Eric Ribbeck (7th grade boys 400m, 1st in heat); Scott Harrington (8th grade boys 1600m, 3rd overall); Taylor Donalson, Kevin Kontchou, Eric Ribbeck, Sumant Agrawal (7th grade boys 4x400m relay, 2nd overall); Abolade Jebutu, Henry Walker, Austin Tucker, Cedric Ginestra (8th grade boys 4x400m relay, 3rd overall); Elisabeth Molloy, Alex Babec, Lia Davis, Nikki Hanshaw (8th grade girls 4x100m relay, 3rd in heat); Elise Renard (8th grade girls 800m and 400m, 3rd in heats); Artemis Nikolakis-Mouchas (7th grade girls 100m, 2nd in heat; and 200m, 3rd in heat); Nikki Hanshaw (8th grade girls 100m, 3rd in heat); Michelle Lee (8th grade girls 400m, 3rd in heat); Paula Inglis (7th grade girls 200m, 3rd in heat); Alex Babec (8th grade girls 200m, 3rd in heat); Lia Davis (8th grade girls 200m, 3rd in heat). In our first official field events of the season, Viking standouts were: Allen Ahn (7th grade boys shot put and discus, 1st overall in each); Abolade Jebutu (8th grade boys shot put, 1st overall); Chris Chapin (7th grade boys discus, 3rd overall); Cedric Ginestra (8th grade boys long jump, 3rd overall). Now for some new batteries in our stopwatches. Go Vikings!

Reminder! The next PTA meeting will be on Wednesday, April 9th at 6:30 P.M. in the Koehl Gym. This is an election meeting, and the slate of officers for next year's Board will be presented for approval. Current members are encouraged to attend and vote, and can pick up their member cards at this meeting.

Cake Walk: It's time to donate a cake, cookies, or any other baked goodies that you know kids will eat. Each Village School family is asked to donate one baked good for the 2008 Cake Walk. Please bring the labeled baked items to the Koehl Gym between Thursday, April 3rd and noon Sunday, April 6th.

POEM IN YOUR POCKET DAY - April 17th |
On April 17, 2008, the Academy of American Poets is celebrating the first national Poem in Your Pocket Day! "For the past five years, New Yorkers have been unfolding poems on Poem in Your Pocket Day and reading them in parks, libraries, schools, workplaces, and bookstores." The Village School will be participating in this wonderful day. Seventh graders will be smack in the middle of their poetry books and will be pulling out their poems in class. Teachers will be talking about the day in class and reading poems with their classses.

MATH SUMMER WORKSHOPS |
The Jeff Boyd math workshops will be offered again this summer for those students interested in obtaining a jump-start for the fall math competitions. Beginning the week of June 9th, one-week classes are available in number sense, calculator, general math, and MATHCOUNTS. Registrations are now being accepted for one or all of the classes at $225 per class which includes all materials and snacks for the three hour daily sessions. Questions may be addressed to Ann Martin at martin@thevillageschool.com or Cindy Proske at proske@thevillageschool.com. Plan now to join us for math and a lot of fun as we study together.

| VILLAGE SCHOOL STUDENTS ARE PREPARED FOR A TORNADO! |

All Village School students recently participated in a tornado drill. As a school, we are required to conduct a tornado drill each school year. The students were asked to take cover according to the school's emergency plan. If your child came home with interesting details or questions about this drill, please assure them they will be prepared in the event of a real emergency.
