FOCUS ON THE ARTS |
|

The first annual Focus on the Arts, was a huge success. The event was held at Houston Baptist University's Morris Hall. Our musical directors Lynn Pyle, Debbie Stark, and Pat Karakas along with art teacher Nancy Frazier did a marvelous job of working with The Village Middle School students to put together an artistic feast for the eyes and ears. Many thanks are also due to the volunteers and parents who supported this groundbreaking event. Bravo!! |

| LOCKDOWN DRILL |
|
|
This week, all students participated in a lockdown drill. In the event of an intrusion, terrorist threat, or sniper, the school would initiate a campus-wide lockdown. The drill included locking all doors, keeping students in the classroom, away from windows and doors, turning off all lights, closing blinds and remaining quiet.
Your students may come home with questions about this drill. If they do, please assure them they are now prepared if an actual emergency were to occur.

Spring Fling A HUGE SUCCESS!! |

We don't have our final fundraising figures in yet, but judging by the smiles and laughter heard around the school last Sunday, a wonderful time was had by all. Roberta Bernstein and Jane Deyhimi did an outstanding job of coordinating the Spring Fling and spreading joy! A record number of children participated in the Fun Run.
Many thanks to all volunteers, donors, and families just having fun!

POEM IN YOUR POCKET DAY - April 17th |
On April 17, 2008, the Academy of American Poets is celebrating the first national Poem in Your Pocket Day! "For the past five years, New Yorkers have been unfolding poems on Poem in Your Pocket Day and reading them in parks, libraries, schools, workplaces, and bookstores." The Village School will be participating in this wonderful day. Seventh graders will be smack in the middle of their poetry books and will be pulling out their poems in class. Teachers will be talking about the day in class and reading poems with their classses.
