| DANGER IN CARPOOL |
DO NOT DROP YOUR CHILDREN OFF IN THE STREET
With the end of school in sight, we must not lose sight of the importance of safety in our carpool areas. Just this morning, a parent reported that children were crossing through the front driveway from the street. The parent felt she came dangerously close to striking them with her car because she was not expecting children to be coming from the left side of her car.
Please re-read the carpool guidelines from the lower school or middle school handbook. Both handbooks may be found on the school website on the parents' page.

MERITAS ACADEMIC OLYMPIAD VICTORY FOR
VILLAGE SCHOOL! |
The Village School six-person Olympiad Team traveled to Boston to compete in the first annual Meritas Academic Olympiad (MAO). Eight other Meritas Schools attended this event, which was hosted by The Village School. Competitions were held in the morning, and the afternoons were spent sight-seeing. The teams enjoyed a Duck Tour of Boston, a visit to the John F. Kennedy Library/Museum, a tour of Harvard University, and a few games of candle pin bowling. New friendships were formed, and an amicable rivalry was enjoyed over the four day event. The Village School was the overall first place winner of the event and brought home a beautiful trophy that is currently displayed on the reception desk. Individual event results are below. Congratulations to all the participants for doing an excellent job representing the school.

| Track and Field News |
|
The Village Track and Field Team has sprinted to its regular season finale, and now takes aim at the conference finals next week at Kinkaid on Monday, April 21st and Tuesday, April 22nd. The Vikings appreciate the effort all parents and supporters have put forth for our team. We encourage anyone interested to watch next week's finals action at the Kinkaid track stadium at 4:00 P.M. each day. The 8th grade boys will be seeking a third straight conference title to go with their 6th and 7th grade titles.
On Thursday, April 10th and Friday, April 11th at the St. John's meet, the Vikings again brought home a hard earned 8th grade boys' first place plaque, and the 7th grade boys climbed from third at the previous meet to second place at St. John's. Many Village parents and supporters cheered on our Viking boys and girls from the stands and infield each day. The Vikings were led by: Abolade Jebutu (8th grade boys- total individual points 1st overall); Cedric Ginestra (8th grade boys- total individual points 2nd overall); James Wang (8th grade boys- triple jump 1st overall); Eric Ribbeck (7th grade boys- total individual points 1st overall); Sumant Agrawal (7th grade boys- total individual points 3rd overall); Elise Renard (8th grade girls- individual points leader for Village). Go Vikings!

Alan Dornjandaeng takes flight in the 7th grade boys' long jump at the St. John's meet on Thursday, April 10, 2008.

"West Houston Drivers Should Expect Delays"
|
|

Beginning 10:00 P.M., Friday, April 18 until 5:00 A.M., Monday, April 21, Texas Department of Transportation contractor, Williams Brothers, will close the I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound and westbound mainlanes between Dairy Ashford and Park Ten. This closure is required for the placing of bridge beams for the new SH-6 overpass bridge. Law enforcement will be stationed at key locations to facilitate the movement of traffic in the area. However, due to the complexity of the work to be performed and the broad work area required, drivers are strongly encouraged to use alternate travel routes to avoid delays where feasible.
