Welcome to V-Flash

Dear Village School Community:

Welcome to the inaugural edition of the weekly Village electronic newsletter, The Village News Flash (or V-Flash). The purpose of The V-Flash is two-fold. First, by consolidating into a single, weekly communication all of our announcements and reminders, we hope to reduce the volume of email communications you ordinarily receive from The Village School. Second, the electronic newsletter will help us communicate pertinent information about school life and programming more efficiently and consistently. We will send out two editions of the V-Flash, one for the Lower School and one for the Middle School. Please look forward to receiving the V-Flash every Friday afternoon, and very rarely on other days of the week.

If you are an organizer of a Village School activity, and hope to share important information with the community in the V-Flash, all submissions must be made to Sharon Gregory or Kristi Reigle in the front office by 5:00 P.M. on Wednesdays. Please submit your announcements in Microsoft Word, Times New Roman, font size 12.

Sincerely,

Jonathan L. Silver, PhD

President

BUS UPDATE

Many thanks to all of you who are being so patient and flexible as we work through our current bus needs.  Please be assured that we are working diligently to offer you the best possible bus service available.  Although we are very concerned with the timeliness and convenience of our bus service, our primary concern is the safety and security of the children.  Thank you for your continued support.

BOB the BUILDER
Although it may not appear so, work on the new high school has in fact begun.  I hope most of you have had a chance to at least see the design of the new school.  For those of you who  have not, there are drawings showing the exterior elevation set up in the front lobby and library entrance.
Permits have been submitted to the City for review. We are actively monitoring any requests for modifications and submitting responses.  Construction mobilization has begun and this means we'll soon see construction trailers, fencing, site lighting, etc. showing up on site.
Many other changes will also be occurring as we begin building.  I would like to thank you in advance for your patience and flexibility as we move forward together.
Please feel free to drop me an email if you have any questions or concerns.

THE VILLAGE SCHOOL CHESS TEAM SWEEPS THE BOARD

The Village School Chess team continued its winning ways at the Texas State Girls Chess Championship held recently in Corpus Christi.

Seven girls from the Village School Chess Team made the trip to play chess against the best girls in the state. After 6 rounds of play over the course of two days the girls came home with 7 individual trophies and medals and a team State Championship!

The team championship in the elementary section was led by Abigail Glatman with 4.5 points. Sandhya Srinivasa followed with 4 points. Megan Walsh and Bharathi Selvan rounded out the team with 3 and 2 points respectively.

Rorye Jones led the individual trophies earning a near perfect score of 5 points to tie for first place in the K-1 section. Rorye ended up in second place after tie breaks. Abigail Glatman and Sandhya Srinivasa took individual 3rd and 4th place trophies in the Elementary section while Elizabeth Popov won 10th place in the Primary section. Nicole Jones, Megan Walsh and Bharathi Selvan took home individual medals for 14th, 12th and 17th place, respectively.

Dr. Jonathan Silver, President of the Village School commented: "The standard of our chess teams is second-to-none.  It gives me great pleasure to see these students rewarded for their high level of competence".
