Parent Carpool Etiquette and Child Safety

We are all aware that carpool drop-off and pick-up times can be very hectic and congested around the school. For the near future, this will be exacerbated by the presence of heavy construction vehicles. Please operate your own vehicle with the safety of our children in mind and obey local traffic laws. U-turns on Whittington, Westella, and Gentryside during high-peak traffic times are very dangerous. "Jumping" or "cutting" into carpool lines ahead of other vehicles obviously upsets (as such behavior should) those who have been waiting patiently. Dropping off your children in areas that are not designated for drop-off puts your children at risk, as these areas do not have the adult supervision necessary for such activity. Finally, please be aware that the Houston Police Department will patrol the local streets and ticket those drivers who operate their vehicles unsafely, including excessive speed, illegal u-turns, and failing to come to a complete stop at intersections. We thank you for your attention to these matters and for looking out for the safety of Village students.

MERITAS GIRLS' VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT
volleyballThe Meritas Volleyball Tournament was held  at The Village School Friday, November 9 - Sunday, November 11. Five Meritas family schools traveled from across the country to participate in the tournament and surrounding festivities.  In typical Village School fashion, the entire school was involved in the tournament. The Village School spirit showed as the students from grades 1 - 8 cheered on the competitors from all the schools. The finals match took place in the Moore Gym (new gym) facility between The Village School and Heritage Oak. For one hour and fifteen minutes and into overtime in the third and deciding game, the Village girls battled and lost by two points. The second place finish already has our team looking forward to a rematch at next year's tournament!
