Village Chess Team Wins at State Championships |
The Village School Chess Team won one team and two individual State Championships at the 2007 Texas State Chess Championships. Held in the Woodlands on the weekend before Thanksgiving, thirty-nine Vikings won seven team and twelve individual trophies.
The fourth grade team, led by Sandhya Srinvasa, Arjun Reddy, Devan Shan, and Andrew Wang, brought home the Team Championship. Every other team, from Kindergarten to 6th grade, won a team trophy ranging from second to fourth!
Elliot Glatman led the charge on individual trophies. He won all six games to become the 2007 Texas Kindergarten Champion. Alex Liu won five games and had one draw to become co-champion in the second grade competition. Charisma Gajula (KIII) and Michael Wong (5th grade) each brought home 5th place individual trophies. Anshul Palavajjhala (6th grade) won 6th place while Nicholas Wille (2nd grade), Sandhya Srinivasa (4th grade), and Chase Barnett (5th grade) each earned a 7th place trophy.
Arjun Reddy (4th grade) won the 8th place trophy, while Aaron Chang won 10th place despite having to quit his last game due to illness. Zack Westenhaver (5th grade) took home a 12th place and Devan Shan grabbed 13th to finish the individual trophy haul.

| Parent Carpool Etiquette and Child Safety |
We are all aware that carpool drop-off and pick-up times can be very hectic and congested around the school. For the near future, this will be exacerbated by the presence of heavy construction vehicles. Please operate your own vehicle with the safety of our children in mind and obey local traffic laws. U-turns on Whittington, Westella, and Gentryside during high-peak traffic times are very dangerous. "Jumping" or "cutting" into carpool lines ahead of other vehicles obviously upsets (as such behavior should) those who have been waiting patiently. Dropping off your children in areas that are not designated for drop-off puts your children at risk, as these areas do not have the adult supervision necessary for such activity. Finally, please be aware that the Houston Police Department will patrol the local streets and ticket those drivers who operate their vehicles unsafely, including excessive speed, illegal u-turns, and failing to come to a complete stop at intersections. We thank you for your attention to these matters and for looking out for the safety of Village students. |

TOY DRIVE
National Junior Honor Society and Student Council |
Our 2007 Toy Drive is upon us! NJHS and Student Council will collect new toys December 3rd-7th for City Wide Club of America. They provide toys for underprivileged children on Christmas Eve. Last year we collected over 1800 toys and completely filled their truck! We would love to exceed that total with our goal of 2100 toys this year. Please send your gift to your child's homeroom and make a child smile.
