In1606, we left on three ships across the oceans, For our King James because he had notions.
We sailed on the Susan Constant, Godspeed, and the Discovery, To put this new world on the path of recovery.
We discovered plants and trees, To find barley, wheat, and tobacco leaves.
Our Captain John Smith was the leading man, Who made sure we worked and helped us plan.
For establishing, Jamestown, our new settlement, To make the profit needed for the English government.
Then Captain John Smith left us for a while, The starvation time began and was tough and hostile.
Pocahontas, the Powhatan’s daughter, Saved John Rolfe from facing his slaughter.
African Americans were brought to the new world and sold, To become indentured slaves, a life-long hold.
Now Jamestown celebrates its 400th birthday, In honor of the people that came across the bay. |
