Racism is a bias; a love or a hate

For no apparent reason, except for the person’s race

It is discrimination because of difference

People fear this difference, and turn their fear into hate

Treating others unfairly, setting them apart

Soon, the discrimination is common; no one thinks it’s wrong

Only few have different opinions, different ideas, different views

These brave few risk their lives to support what they think is right

Giving speeches, giving marches, giving boycotts

Protesting against racism, trying to put it to an end

Some are thrown in jail, assassinated, or threatened

But these people started a Civil Rights Movement

The movement spread out among other people

Who follow in their steps

These people influenced others

Who influenced others

Until Congress, itself, could not bear it any longer

Laws were passed, and racism was brought to an end

Still today, many people thank the Civil Rights leaders for their deeds

People recognize what life would have been like without them

The racism, the riots, the disunity of our country

We thank you
